WHO Says Bird Flu Could Become Epidemic

Fears are growing over the spread of bird flu as several human deaths from the deadly influenza have been reported.

World Health Organization said that never before in history had the avian influenza swept across any region so rampantly, expressing deep worry over what could potentially turn out to be a global outbreak of an entirely new form of human flu.

So far, millions of birds have died of the flu or were destroyed by workers trying to contain the outbreak.

Human cases have been reported in Thailand, including six deaths as of Saturday in Vietnam and one suspected death in Thailand according to the World Health Organization.

South Korea has suspended poultry imports from Thailand after discovering the Thai government had covered up an outbreak of the bird flu.
