South Korea's Justice Minister Choo Mi-ae has decided not to appeal a court injunction to halt the two-month suspension of Prosecutor General Yoon Seok-youl.
In a statement on Wednesday, Choo said she will instead focus on setting things right when the court reviews a suit filed by Yoon to withdraw the punishment, considering that the appeal would lead to confusion and division of public sentiment.
The minister then apologized to the public for causing great confusion as the one who recommended the suspension to President Moon Jae-in.
Choo, however, refused to accept the court's decision, claiming that it granted the injunction citing procedural deficiencies, while recognizing key parts of the ministry's reasons for suspending the top prosecutor.
Meanwhile, the minister posted a message on her social media account, refuting the opposition's concerns over the Corruption Investigation Office for High-ranking Officials(CIO), saying it will operate as a good example of an investigative agency.
