Representatives from two women’s groups and a lawmaker were involved in informing the late Seoul Mayor Park Won-soon about sexual harassment allegations made against him, just before his apparent suicide in July.
This was revealed on Wednesday by the Seoul Northern District Prosecutors' Office, which has been investigating the alleged leak of the victim's complaint.
According to the prosecution, Kim Jae-ryun, the lawyer defending the victim, shared information about the planned complaint with an official from a women's group on July 7.
The information went through two representatives of another group, before being delivered to an incumbent lawmaker, then to Park's special adviser on gender issues.
While Park initially denied his involvement, he reportedly told his adviser later that an exchange of text messages with the victim three months earlier could be problematic.
Although Park and his aides knew the victim was planning to take action, they are not believed to have been aware of her complaint and interview with the police.
After a forensic analysis of cellphones of all those involved, the prosecution has decided not to indict anyone, citing that no one disclosed the information about the complaint to the public.
