Top Infectious Disease Officials from S. Korea, US Discuss COVID-19 Cooperation

The top infectious disease officials in South Korea and the United States discussed increasing cooperation on COVID-19 responses and the development of vaccines and treatment.

Talks between Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency(KDCA) Director Jeong Eun-kyeong and Anthony Fauci, the director of the U.S. National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, were held Tuesday via video conference.

According to the KDCA, the two sides assessed each other's COVID-19 situations, where Fauci called South Korea one of the world's leading nations in COVID-19 responses, managing to contain the virus' spread.

The American expert added that this was all due to cooperation from the South Korean public.

The two sides also decided to seek technological cooperation and joint clinical studies on vaccines and treatment, as well as the establishment of a bilateral consultative body, where Jeong highlighted the importance of international cooperation.
