The South Korean government will announce adjustments to social distancing levels nationwide this weekend.

Yoon Tae-ho, a senior Health Ministry official, said on Thursday that the government is collecting opinions from related ministries, local governments and experts regarding quarantine after Sunday.

The current Level Two-point-Five distancing in the capital area and Level Two in other regions, as well as the year-end special quarantine rules, are set to end on Sunday.

The Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters is expected to decide whether to extend or raise current distancing and announce the decision on Saturday.

Amid the latest wave of the COVID-19 epidemic, the average number of daily local infections for the past week stood at one-thousand-seven, well within the threshold for the highest Level Three distancing.
