South Korea will remain under the current social distancing levels for two more weeks until January 17 with some quarantine measures adjusted.

Level Two-point-Five will remain in place for the Seoul metro area and Level Two will be maintained in other regions.

Under the extended rules, a ban on personal gatherings of five or more people that had applied only to the capital area has been expanded nationwide, although such a ban has been in place at restaurants nationwide since December 24.

Violators are subject to a fine of up to three million won for owners of facilities that host such meetings and up to 100-thousand won for the participants.

However, some restrictions have been partially lifted. Private cram schools in the capital region will be allowed to open only for classes with under nine students.

Winter sports facilities such as ski resorts across the nation can operate while limiting the capacity to one-third and closing down the slopes after 9 p.m.
