The South Korean government assessed that despite continued reports of COVID-19 clusters amid the third wave of the epidemic, the nation has begun to generally manage the situation.

Yoon Tae-ho, a senior Health Ministry official, said on Monday that the average daily local infections over the past three weeks have gradually declined.

The official said the daily increase on Sunday surpassing one-thousand can be attributed to over 120 new cases from a detention center in eastern Seoul, and additional clusters at nursing facilities around the country.

As for concerns over a shortage of beds for COVID-19 patients, Yoon said over ten-thousand beds are available, including 240 for those in semi-critical or critical condition.
