A court has wrapped up a hearing on a lawsuit aimed at invalidating the nomination of the inaugural chief of the Corruption Investigation Office for High-Ranking Officials(CIO).

The Seoul Administrative Court on Thursday heard arguments from both sides in the lawsuit and injunction filed by two panelists representing the main opposition People Power Party(PPP) on the CIO chief recommendation committee.

When the court verdict will come out remains unknown.

The committee recommended two finalists late last month. President Moon Jae-in nominated one of them, Constitutional Court researcher Kim Jin-wook, for the post.

The PPP-affiliated panelists sought to invalidate the panel’s choices and also filed an injunction to suspend the efficacy of the recommendation until a court ruling.

The two panelists took issue with the recommendation being made in their absence, saying it amounts to the deprivation of the opposition party’s veto rights. They had boycotted the voting in protest of revisions to a law that effectively incapacitated the PPP's veto power, requiring five of the seven panelists to endorse a candidate, down from the previous six.

The two panelists also filed an adjudication on the constitutionality of the revisions.
