South Korea reported 674 new COVID-19 cases on Friday, remaining below one-thousand for the fourth straight day.
The Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency(KDCA) said that the new infections raised the country's accumulated caseload to 67-thousand-358.
Of the new cases detected throughout Thursday, 633 were local transmissions, while 41 were imported.
The daily figure fell by almost 200 from the previous day and dropped to below 700 for the first time in five days.
By region, Seoul added 186 new infections, while the surrounding Gyeonggi Province recorded 236 and Incheon added 30.
The number of critically ill COVID-19 patients rose by four to 404, while 35 virus-related deaths were reported in the past 24 hours, raising the country's death toll to one-thousand-81. The fatality rate stands at one-point-60 percent.
Meanwhile, the government will launch a vaccine task force on Friday aimed at achieving herd immunity by November.
The task force will be in charge of preparations to administer vaccinations as well as any follow-up measures. It will be headed by Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency Commissioner Jung Eun-kyeong.
