The ongoing cold snap that has hit South Korea is not expected to subside any time soon, with the mercury level forecast to remain below the annual average over the weekend.

Temperatures are expected to dip to minus 15 degrees Celsius in Seoul Saturday morning and minus 22 degrees in the eastern city of Chuncheon, according to the Korea Meteorological Administration(KMA) on Friday.

The southwestern city of Gwangju will see the mercury fall to minus 13 degrees and the southeastern city of Busan, minus ten degrees Celsius.

Daytime highs will only rise three to four degrees more than Friday, ranging from minus eight to one degree Celsius nationwide.

Some 30 centimeters of snow are in the forecast for the mountainous regions on the southernmost Jeju Island, as well as the easternmost Ulleung Island and Dokdo islets until Sunday.
