South Korea has reported new COVID-19 cases in the 600s for a second day as the third wave of the outbreak is believed to have passed its peak.
The Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency (KDCA) said Saturday that 641 new infections were detected throughout Friday, raising the country's accumulated caseload to 67-thousand-999. The daily tally is the lowest in 32 days and marks the fifth straight day below one thousand.
Of the new cases, 596 were local transmissions and 45 were imported cases.
By region, over 400 cases come from the greater metro area including 195 in Seoul and 180 in Gyeonggi Province.
Nineteen more coronavirus deaths were reported Friday, raising the death toll to one-thousand-100, with the fatality rate at one-point-62 percent.
The number of critically ill patients has risen by five to 409.
Though new cases have dropped, cluster and hidden infections and virus variants from overseas continue to be a source of concern.
