A Seoul court has acquitted two former executives who were on trial for their involvement in the sale of a humidifier disinfectant that caused the deaths of some 100 people between 2002 and 2011.

The Seoul Central District Court issued the verdict on Tuesday for former president of SK Chemicals Hong Ji-ho and former Aekyung Industrial CEO Ahn Yong-chan, who were indicted on charges of professional negligence resulting in death.

The court said while making the ruling that the charges against the two had failed to be sufficiently proven. 

The court said that claims that two chemicals used in the sterilizer products cause lung disease and asthma were not completely verified.
