The number of eco-friendly vehicles in South Korea, including electric and hydrogen-powered cars, has surpassed 800-thousand.

The Transport Ministry said on Wednesday that as of the end of 2020, there were some 820-thousand electric and hydrogen-powered vehicles.

Eco-friendly cars took up three-point-four percent of all automobiles, up point-nine percentage points from 2019.

Among newly registered vehicles, eco-friendly cars took up eleven-point-eight percent last year, up from six-point-eight percent in 2018. Diesel vehicles took up 31 percent, compared to 43 percent in 2018.

Meanwhile, the total number of registered vehicles as of late last year stood at nearly 24-point-37 million, which means about every two-point-13 people owned one vehicle.
