Former President Park Geun-hye, who is serving a 22-year prison term at a correctional facility in Uiwang, Gyeonggi Province, tested negative for COVID-19.

Park was found to have come into close contact with a facility employee who tested positive during facility-wide testing on Tuesday. The employee was wearing a mask on Monday when accompanying the former president for an outside medical treatment.

Although Park tested negative, the 68-year-old ex-leader will be quarantined for some time at an outside medical facility as a preventive measure.

Last week, the Supreme Court upheld Park’s 20-year prison sentence for various corruption charges. In addition, she is also serving two years for illegally meddling in the nomination process of the then-Saenuri Party.
