The slaughtering and burial of chickens infected with avian influenza resumed Wednesday in South Korea's Cheonan region in South Chungcheong Province.

According to quarantine authorities, the provincial government and citizens agreed to bury all infected poultry on the grounds of the farms where the flu first broke out, and to make sure that there would be no leakage of water from the burial sites.

To help in the burial efforts, the province mobilized 60 workers consisting of citizens, public officials, soldiers and police authorities deploying them to 11 different locations in the infected province.

Meanwhile, the Agriculture Ministry officials announced late Tuesday an import ban on all chickens and poultry from China, following a reported outbreak of avian flu from Chinese authorities Tuesday night.
