The United States hit the 25 million-mark for COVID-19 cases on Sunday.

According to data from Johns Hopkins University, the number of cumulative infections in the U.S. surpassed 25 million on Sunday, with the death toll exceeding 417-thousand.

The U.S. topped the grim milestone about a year after its first case was reported on January 20 last year.

The cumulative infections of 25 million account for seven-point-six percent of the U.S. population of 328 million, meaning that one in 13 Americans have been infected with the virus.

The U.S. has reported the largest number of cases and deaths in the world, accounting for a quarter of 98-point-nine million global infections and nearly 20 percent of two-point-one million deaths.
