The nominee to head the Justice Ministry vowed to uphold his predecessors Cho Kuk and Choo Mi-ae's principle of giving preference for personnel appointments to prosecutors handling criminal investigations and trials.
At a parliamentary confirmation hearing on Monday, Park Beom-kye also said that should he become the minister, he may have to soon carry out personnel appointments.
Stating that preferential treatment of such prosecutors should be addressed in the adjustment of the agency's investigative rights, Park said it would be a very important task in terms of human rights, lawful procedure and judicial control.
The nominee cited separating the rights to investigate and indict as the best way to prevent human rights infringement in investigations, vowing to consult on the matter with the National Assembly.
Park said the public wants to reform the prosecution after the rights held by the agency, as well as the prosecutor general's command and inspection rights, were abused.
