The nominee to head the Justice Ministry criticized the prosecution's investigation into the ministry's alleged violation in issuing a travel ban against former Vice Justice Minister Kim Hak-ui in 2019.

At a parliamentary confirmation hearing on Monday, Park Beom-kye said finding the real truth and lawful procedure are the two axes of criminal justice.

While stating that he prioritizes procedural justification, the nominee added that the public will not accept the prosecution setting the case as an example.

Park said if he becomes justice minister, he will investigate related allegations, including the alleged leak of information regarding Kim.

Regarding allegations that Vice Justice Minister Lee Yong-gu assaulted a taxi driver before taking his post, the nominee declined to comment on whether Lee should resign.

While agreeing that the ongoing investigation should be conducted in a stern manner, Park said the vice minister hasn’t been indicted on any charges.
