The justice minister nominee believes the prosecution's investigation into the ministry’s alleged violation in issuing a travel ban against a former vice minister in 2019 should be transferred to the Corruption Investigation Office for High-ranking Officials(CIO).
Nominee Park Beom-kye conveyed the view during his confirmation hearing in parliament Monday.
Answering a question from ruling Democratic Party(DP) lawmaker Kim Yong-min, Park cited the CIO law, which calls for handing over cases when law enforcement agencies detect corruption allegations involving prosecutors.
But the nominee held back an opinion about whether a collusion case involving senior prosecutor Han Dong-hoon and a journalist should also be dealt with by the CIO, saying that case has exposed tremendous confrontation.
On whether the CIO should also take over a bribery case involving the wife of Prosecutor General Yoon Seok-youl, Park said that should also be sternly handled, as all cases should face the same exact standards and swiftness in investigation.
