The South Korean government will announce on Friday adjustments to current social distancing levels that will take effect next month.

Health Ministry spokesperson Son Young-rae revealed the plan on Tuesday.

Level Two-point-Five distancing in the capital area and Level Two in other regions are set to end on Sunday.

Son said consultations with relevant groups are underway and local governments have also begun discussions. A panel consisting of medical experts and civic groups is scheduled to convene on Wednesday.

The spokesperson said the effects from eased rules applied to multipurpose facilities since January 18 will begin to show towards the end of this week, adding that the government will decide on the adjustments after monitoring the situation.

The government will also have to decide whether to extend a ban on gatherings of five or more people ahead of the Lunar New Year holiday in mid-February.
