South Korea has extended tougher social distancing measures for two more weeks to contain the spread of COVID-19.

Level Two-point-Five measures, the second-highest in the country's five-tier scheme, will remain in place for Seoul and its surrounding areas of Gyeonggi Province and Incheon through February 14. The other parts of the nation will remain under Level Two.

Bans on private gatherings of five or more people will also stay in place almost across the country during the period, which includes the Lunar New Year holiday in the second week of February.

Restaurants and cafes in the capital region can provide dine-in services until 9 p.m. Only takeaway and delivery are permitted from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. High-risk establishments such as bars and clubs will remain closed.

However, the government relaxed some measures at several facilities, such as concert halls, theaters and ski resorts.
