South Korea is expected to receive at least two-point-seven million doses of COVID-19 vaccines in the first half of this year through the COVAX vaccine-sharing facility. About two million doses are likely to be allocated to North Korea.
The COVAX facility, the World Health Organization's global vaccine provision program, unveiled detailed plans to allocate more than 330 million doses to 145 nations in the first half.
This will cover about three-point-three percent of the total population of the 145 participating countries.
Announcing an interim distribution plan in a virtual press briefing on Wednesday, the COVAX facility said that 336 million doses of the AstraZeneca-Oxford COVID-19 vaccine and one-point-two million doses of the Pfizer vaccine will be allocated to the countries in the first half.
South Korea will get at least 117-thousand doses of the Pfizer vaccine and about two-point-six million doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine produced at SK Bioscience, a contract manufacturer of the shot.
The combined amount is enough for about one-point-35 million people as the two vaccines both require two shots.
