Experts advising the World Health Organization(WHO) have recommended that AstraZeneca's COVID-19 vaccine can be used for adults of all age groups.

The interim recommendation came from the WHO's Strategic Advisory Group of Experts(SAGE) on Friday.

While acknowledging the lack of data to prove the efficacy of the vaccine for seniors, SAGE stated there was no reason to believe that the response from seniors would differ from other age groups.

SAGE also recommended the vaccine's use in regions where new variants of COVID-19 are circulating.

Additionally, the expert group advised that the two doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine to be given at a longer interval of eight to 12 weeks apart, saying that higher efficacy was expected with that schedule.

This decision comes as South Korea  approved the vaccine for all adults, while some countries gave conditional approval or even suspended its use.
