S. Korea Reports 488 New COVID-19 Cases

South Korea added almost 500 COVID-19 cases throughout Thursday, marking the highest number in three weeks. 

The Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency(KDCA) said on Friday that 488 cases were confirmed in the 24 hours to 12 a.m., raising the country's cumulative total to 94-thousand-686.

Daily cases remained in the 400s for the fourth day in a row as the third wave of the epidemic has continued for nearly four months.

Of the new cases, 467 were local infections while 21 were imported.

Around 70 percent of the local cases came from the greater metro area, with 138 in Seoul, 157 in Gyeonggi Province and 29 in Incheon. Other parts of the nation added 143 cases.

Ten more people have died, bringing the COVID-19 death toll to one-thousand-662. The fatality rate stands at one-point-76 percent.

The number of critically ill coronavirus patients remained at 127.
