A Korean American lawmaker said U.S. President Joe Biden shared the pain suffered by the Asian American community and vowed to seek justice in the wake of shootings in Atlanta that left eight people dead, including six of Asian descent.

Georgia state Rep. Sam Park said last Saturday that Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris heard the heartbreak, fear and anger of the Asian American community and shared their pain during a closed-door meeting with community leaders last Friday.

Park, who attended the private meeting, said Biden demonstrated significant understanding and sympathy toward the Korean American and Asian American communities.

Park added that he delivered a statement drafted by some 20 Korean American organizations to Biden’s aides, that condemns the latest shootings as a racist hate crime and calls on the administration to swiftly launch a fair investigation into the matter.
