Iraq has requested South Korean construction firms to join in international efforts to rehabilitate the war-torn nation.

Iraq's Deputy Minister of Electricity Imad Al-ani made the request Wednesday when he met with Construction and Transportation Minister Kang Dong-suk in Seoul. The two officials discussed ways for South Korean firms to participate in projects to rebuild Iraq's roads, bridges and utility works.

Kang promised to support local firms to take part in reconstruction efforts in Iraq and asked for active assistance from the Iraqi government.
