The U.S. Department of Defense denied Wednesday a news report that the American military has been pushing to dismantle its Combined Forces Command in South Korea as part of a massive restructuring of its Pacific Command.
The Washington Times reported Tuesday that the Pentagon is pressing ahead with massive restructuring of the U.S. Pacific Command, including the disbanding of the U.S. Forces Korea, the United Nations Command and the South Korea-U.S Combined Forces Command.
Flex Plexico, U.S. Defense Department Press Officer, stressed to Yonhap News Agency that the news reports represent opinions, and should not be viewed as authoritative fact. He added that such speculations reported as fact do not help efforts to make decisions in consultations with U.S. allies.
He said the Future of the Alliance talks, entering their second year, offer a forum to discuss future changes to the alliance, adding that those talks have not included any discussions about any changes to the combined command relationship.
