Restaurants Liable to Indicate Beef Origin By 2005

Local restaurants will be required to indicate the origin of their beef beginning the latter half of next year, at the earliest.
The government said it has decided to implement the system after discussing the issue with related ministries including the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, Ministry of Health and Welfare and Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade.
The government is also looking into implementing a system that would necessitate restaurants to identify the origin of local beef as well as to distinguish beef and cattle.
