Canada Reviews N. Korea Diplomat

A former North Korean diplomat whose request for refugee status had been turned down by Canada has appealed for a review.

The Canadian government confirmed Tuesday that Ri Song-dae filed the appeal with Canada's Immigration and Refugee Board.

Canada's Immigration Minister Judy Sgro said Ri would not be deported, adding that no explanation on the issue will be disclosed until all related facts are checked and a final decision is made on the matter.
The Immigration and Refugee Board ruled last week that Ri did not deserve Canadian protection because the diplomat, as a former North Korean official, was complicit in crimes against humanity committed by his government.
