Germany To Give 3 Mil. Euro in Food Aid to North

Written: 2004-02-13 00:00:00Updated: 0000-00-00 00:00:00

Germany announced Friday that it will provide three million euros, or more than 4.47 billion won, in food aid to impoverished North Korea.

In a statement, the German Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development said that it would deliver half of the food aid through the U.N. World Food Program (WFP) and the other half through a German non-governmental organization.

Germany's move comes after the WFP on Monday made a last ditch appeal for help to feed millions starving in North Korea, saying more than four million core beneficiaries the most vulnerable elderly, women and children are currently deprived of absolutely vital food rations.
