Amid the continuous spread of bird flu in Asia, the World Health Organization has warned that human infections cannot be ruled out.
The U-N health body also expressed concern Thursday that health authorities in Indonesia, which has been criticized for its slow response to its bird flu outbreak, could have failed to detect human infections.
Meanwhile, health officials in Vietnam said a 16-month-old girl was admitted to a hospital in Ho Chi Minh City on Monday and subsequently tested positive for the highly pathogenic H5N1 strain of bird flu. Doctors said she was in stable condition.
Vietnam and Thailand are the only countries to have confirmed human infections of the bird flu virus, which has also hit poultry flocks in Cambodia, China, Indonesia, Japan and South Korea.
