Showers are in the forecast nationwide on Tuesday and the precipitation is expected to weaken the ongoing heat wave.

According to weather authorities, five to 70 millimeters of rain are projected throughout the country until Tuesday night.

Some areas may see a downpour of 50 millimeters per hour, accompanied by strong winds, thunder and lightning.

Heat wave alerts, meanwhile, were eased or lifted, with daytime highs in Seoul and most regions expected to be one to four degrees Celsius lower than the previous day.

More rain is in the forecast for the southernmost Jeju Island Wednesday morning, and the precipitation will likely move northward towards areas along the southern coast by Thursday.
