A South Korean delegation has departed for the United States for talks with Moderna officials to resolve delays in COVID-19 vaccine shipments.

The four-member delegation, including Second Vice Health Minister Kang Do-tae, left for Boston on Friday.

Before their departure from Incheon International Airport, Kang told reporters that the delegates will discuss stabilizing the vaccine supply in general including the planned shipments.

The vice minister said the delegation will also express regret over the changes in Moderna's vaccine supply.

The delegation plans to meet with company officials at the firm's headquarters on Friday afternoon, local time. The delegates will return on Sunday afternoon and announce the results of the trip.

Earlier, Moderna notified Seoul that it can only supply less than half of the eight-point-five million doses that it agreed to deliver in August, citing production issues.
