The prosecution says it may seek an arrest warrant against the acting chairman of the opposition United Liberal Democrats, Rhee In-je, if he continues to defy a summons.
The Supreme Public Prosecutors' Office had earlier planned to summon him Monday for questioning on briber charges. But Representative Rhee refused to make himself available for investigations, citing a parliamentary floor schedule.
He is accused of receiving 250 million won in illegal political funds from the main opposition GNP ahead of the December 2002 presidential election.
A prosecution spokesman said last week that the GNP gave a total of five hundred million won to Rep. Rhee through one of his aides allegedly to seek his help for the then GNP presidential candidate Lee Hoi-chang. The spokesman said Rep. Rhee's aide, Kim Yoon-soo, delivered only half the sum to Rep. Rhee's wife and pocketed the other half.
Kim was arrested Friday evening on charges of violating the political funding law.
In a statement on Friday, Rep. Rhee denied the allegations that he took bribes from the GNP.
