The evacuation of the last South Korean national in Afghanistan is being delayed due to extreme chaos at an airport in Kabul after the Taliban took control of the capital.

According to Seoul's Foreign Ministry, the South Korean citizen boarded a flight on Monday afternoon, but the flight has yet to take off from the airport as Afghans flooded the runway to evacuate.

A ministry official said that the citizen is currently at the airport with an employee of the South Korean Embassy in Afghanistan, and it's uncertain when the flight will depart.

The Seoul government temporarily shut down the embassy on Sunday as the Taliban advanced to retake full control of the war-torn country.

Currently, three embassy personnel, including Ambassador Choi Tae-ho, remain in Afghanistan to support the evacuation of the last South Korean citizen.
