The main opposition People Power Party(PPP) has decided to expel one of its lawmakers and advise five others to leave the party over allegations of illegal real estate transactions.
PPP Chair Lee Jun-seok said on Tuesday that the party’s Supreme Council members reached the decision unanimously following hours of discussions.
The move came a day after the Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission announced the results of its two-month inquiry into 507 representatives of six parties including the PPP and their families, which found 12 PPP lawmakers connected to suspicious property deals.
With the names leaked earlier in the day, the conservative party said those advised to leave are Kang Gi-yun, Lee Joo-hwan, Lee Chul-gyu, Jung Chan-min and Choi Chun-sik. Proportional representative Han Moo-kyung will be expelled.
The party, however, decided to not take any disciplinary action against the six others including Song Seog-jun, An Byung-gil and Yun Hee-suk, accepting their explanations given in a closed-door session on Tuesday.
