Unification Minister Lee In-young has met with Russia's nuclear envoy and Deputy Foreign Minister Igor Morgulov in Seoul and requested Moscow's contribution in the Korean Peninsula peace process.
According to the Unification Ministry on Wednesday, Lee told the Russian envoy that cooperation among the two Koreas and Russia can contribute to not only Korean peace but peace and prosperity in the Far East, Siberia and the whole Eurasian continent.
Morgulov said trilateral cooperation is important economically but also politically, and promised Russia will play an active role for peace on the peninsula.
Vice Unification Minister Choi Young-joon also held talks with the Russian official and discussed bilateral cooperation to advance the peace process.
The ministry said the two sides reaffirmed commitment to denuclearization and the importance of diplomacy as they agreed to continue communication.
Since arriving in Seoul on Saturday, the Russian envoy has held talks with his U.S counterpart Sung Kim, who also arrived the same day, as well as South Korea's chief nuclear negotiator Noh Kyu-duk.
