A group of Afghans who assisted with South Korean operations in Afghanistan arrived in the country on Thursday.
A military transport aircraft carrying the people and their families landed at Incheon International Airport at around 4:30 p.m. after departing from Islamabad International Airport in Pakistan at 4:53 a.m., Korea time.
According to the Foreign Ministry, a total of 391 Afghans were transported from Kabul to Islamabad in two separate operations via South Korean military aircraft on Wednesday. About 180 are said to be children aged ten and under.
Most of the evacuated, or 378 people, landed on Thursday. The remaining thirteen, who were not able to fit in the initial flight due to space constraints, will follow.
The evacuees worked at the South Korean Embassy, a Korean hospital and vocational training center in Bagram and with a Korean rehabilitation team based in Charikar for several years.
They will undergo quarantine procedures and move to a temporary facility in Jincheon, North Chungcheong Province, where they will take Korean language and cultural classes to help with resettlement.
