U.S. President Joe Biden has pledged to strike back after scores of people, including 13 U.S. soldiers, were killed in terrorist attacks near Afghanistan's main airport on Thursday.

Speaking at the White House on Thursday evening, Biden held a moment of silence for the Americans killed, calling them heroes. He then said the U.S. will respond “with force and precision.”

The president maintained that the scheduled withdrawal from Afghanistan will continue, saying that the U.S. would not be deterred by terrorists or let them stop their mission.

Next Tuesday marks the self-imposed deadline and so far 104-thousand people have been evacuated, including nearly five-thousand Americans, according to Marine Corps Gen. Frank McKenzie, the commander of U.S. Central Command.

On Thursday, a suicide bomb exploded at a gate at the main airport in Kabul, followed by gunfire and another bomb at a nearby hotel, claiming the lives of around 90 Afghans. Another 150 civilians and 18 U.S. soldiers were injured. ISIS-K, an offshoot of the Islamic State, has reportedly claimed responsibility.
