The film “Escape from Mogadishu” has become the first movie released this year to draw three million moviegoers, emerging as the year's top blockbuster.

According to distributor Lotte Entertainment on Sunday, the film, directed by Ryoo Seung-wan and starring Zo In-sung and Kim Yoon-seok, has attracted more than three million domestic moviegoers since its release on July 28.

The film has outperformed Marvel Studios' action-packed spy thriller “Black Widow,” which drew nearly two-point-97 million moviegoers as of noon Sunday.

Based on real life events, the "Escape from Mogadishu" depicts the story of diplomats from South and North Korea joining forces to escape from the Somali capital during the 1991 Somali Civil War.
