Apple has reportedly decided to allow partial exemptions for some some app developers,
who will not be forced to use its in-app billing system.

CNBC reported on Wednesday that the U.S. tech giant said media apps concerning newspapers, books, music and others will be allowed to provide a link to their websites that prompts users to sign up for subscription.

CNBC said although not all transactions through the App Store will not be affected by the new rule, the so-called “reader apps” will not be forced to offer a subscription handled through Apple.

The mobile giant reportedly said the decision was made as part of a settlement with the Japan Fair Trade Commission but will be applied globally.

The move also came amid speculation that other countries may follow suit after South Korea passed a legislation prohibiting such practices by dominant app market operators such as Google and Apple.
