S. Korea Adds 1,709 COVID-19 Cases

Health authorities reported one-thousand-709 new COVID-19 cases on Friday, marking the 59th day of infections in the four digits. 

The Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency(KDCA) said that, of the new cases, one-thousand-675 were local infections while 34 were from overseas. 

The majority of cases were concentrated in the capital area, including 540 in Seoul, 513 in Gyeonggi Province and 115 in Incheon. 

Most major cities and provinces in the non-capital region added caseloads in the double-digits, including 58 in Busan, 52 in Daegu and 77 in South Chungcheong Province. 

Five more deaths have been reported, raising the death toll to two-thousand-308, with the fatality rate at zero-point-nine percent. The number of critically ill patients dropped by four from the previous day to 367.

As of 12 a.m. Friday, 29-point-six million people, or 57-point-seven percent of the population, had received at least their first vaccine shots. Sixteen-point-eight million people, or 32-point-seven percent of the population, were fully vaccinated.
