Two South Koreans have won first and second place at a prestigious international piano competition.

At the 63rd Ferruccio Busoni International Piano Competition, which ended Friday in the Italian city of Bolzano, Park Jae-hong came out on top, followed by Kim Do-hyun.

Park, aged 22, is only the second South Korean winner of the competition after Mun Ji-yeong in 2015.

Park will receive 22-thousand euros in prize money and has secured performance opportunities with the Haydn Orchestra. He will also have the chance to go on tour with the Schumann Quartet in 2023.

After an online preliminary round in which over 500 contestants took part, 33 pianists headed to the main round, ten of them being Koreans. Three people competed in the finals to decide the winner.

The Ferruccio Busoni competition was founded in 1949, named after the world renowned Italian pianist and composer.
