The White House has reportedly given a positive response to a recent call by United States lawmakers for expanding cooperation with South Korea in the production of COVID-19 vaccines.
According to Kim Minsun, head of the Museum of Korean American Heritage, the White House recently issued the position in a letter to Carolyn Maloney, chair of the House Committee on Oversight and Reform.
In the letter, the White House reportedly said that the Biden administration is cooperating with the South Korean government to expand COVID-19 vaccine production.
The White House is said to have affirmed that comprehensive cooperation is underway with Seoul, mentioning an expert group on the global vaccine partnership, which the two nations agreed in the May summit.
Last month, Maloney and 13 other U.S. lawmakers sent a letter to President Joe Biden to consider a COVID-19 vaccine swap deal with South Korea.
The lawmakers said in the letter that they hope the president continues the cooperation in providing support to enable Seoul to secure COVID-19 vaccines as early as possible.
