Seoul's environment and foreign ministries said Monday that various events will be held to mark the International Day of Clean Air for Blue Skies, which falls on Tuesday this year in its second year of observance.
The UN-designated day was first proposed by South Korea.
A prerecorded government ceremony will be broadcast Tuesday morning through various channels including the environment ministry's YouTube channel and the website of the Korea Association for UN Environment.
This year's theme is "Healthy Air, Healthy Planet" coined by the UN Environment Programme(UNEP).
Citizen events will take place across Korea, while overseas, a ceremony will be held at the UN headquarters in New York as well as a conference at the UNEP headquarters in Nairobi, Kenya.
Environment Minister Han Jeoung-ae said that, thanks to government efforts and public participation, blue skies free of fine dust were coming back and expressed hope that the events can serve as an opportunity to appreciate clean air and take further steps to protect the environment.
