A recent survey shows South Koreans are increasingly dependent upon movies for cultural entertainment.

The Ministry of Culture said Koreans watched 3.5 movies on average last year. But in contrast they went to literature events, art exhibitions, or plays less than one time a year.

The ministry said about 63 out of 100 Koreans took part in some form of cultural activity during the survey period between July 2002 to 2003. This represents an increase from 53 percent recorded in the year 2000.

In terms of leisure time away from work, Koreans on average have 3 hours of free time on weekdays and close to 5 hours and 44 minutes on the weekends.

The ministry said Koreans also spent 231,000 won, or about 210 dollars, on a monthly average per household on leisure activities. Thats a slight increase from 2000.
