South and North Korea will march together at the opening ceremony of the Athens Olympics and have agreed to field a unified team for the Beijing Games in 2008.

The chief delegates of the two Koreas reached the agreement Wednesday on the sidelines of a general assembly of the Association of National Olympic Committees held in Athens.

The two sides agreed to hold working-level talks soon to hammer out details of the joint entrance. On the issue of fielding a unified team, the two Koreas decided to hold discussions on the matter after the Athens Olympics, citing that it is an issue that needs to be discussed with international sports organizations, including the International Olympic Committee.

Korean athletes also marched together at the opening ceremony of the 2000 Sydney Games, behind a flag depicting the Korean Peninsula. Jo Sang-nam, head of North Korea's Olympic Committee, said the two Koreas would use that procession as a model for Athens.
