South Korea and the United States held the inaugural meeting of their  working group on ransomware to enforce cooperation in cybersecurity.

The White House National Security Council(NSC) announced on Twitter Saturday that the U.S.-South Korea Ransomware Working Group held its first meeting on Friday.

The NSC said the meeting shows the strength of the South Korea-U.S. alliance, deepening cooperation on combating ransomware and other cybercrimes.

It added that international cooperation is essential to combat cybercrimes around the globe.

The working group was launched to follow up on a summit agreement in May between President Moon Jae-in and U.S. President Joe Biden to bolster the partnership in countering global cyber threats.
