President Moon Jae-in will depart for New York this Sunday to attend the 76th session of the UN General Assembly.
Presidential Spokesperson Park Kyung-mee said in a briefing on Monday that Moon will make a five-day trip visiting New York and Honolulu.
In New York, Moon is set to give a keynote speech at the session which will open next Tuesday, hold bilateral summits with world leaders and hold discussions with the UN secretary general.
Moon will be participating in the UN General Assembly session for the fifth consecutive year.
Citing that this year marks the 30th anniversary of South and North Korea both joining the UN, Park said by attending the upcoming session, South Korea will be able to reaffirm the international community’s efforts towards peace on the Korean Peninsula and highlight its activities and contributions for global peace and prosperity. Park added that South Korea will make use of the opportunity to express its commitment to expand its role in the international community.
After wrapping up his stay in New York, Moon will head to Honolulu to attend a ceremony for the transfer of the remains of South Korean and American soldiers killed during the Korean War and another ceremony on posthumously presenting awards to independence fighters.
