Unification Minister Lee In-young on Friday expressed disappointment over the frozen state of inter-Korean relations, saying that peace on the Korean Peninsula has not moved a step since the Pyongyang Joint Declaration was signed three years ago.
Sunday marks three years since the Pyongyang Joint Declaration was signed by President Moon Jae-in and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un in the North's capital city.
Ahead of the anniversary, Minister Lee stressed that Seoul plans to be patient in pursuing the practical steps enclosed in the pact, even if the process requires a long period of time. He assessed the steps as solidifying efforts toward peace and prosperity on the peninsula.
Regarding North Korea's recent missile tests, the minister said Seoul maintains the position that humanitarian cooperation should continue regardless.
Lee also expected to work with the Joe Biden administration on such endeavors, coordinating to create an environment for the three sides to return to denuclearization talks.
